AFTER A LONG WINTER OF HARD WORK, IT WAS
TIME TO PUT IT ALL ON THE LINE. IN FRONT OF STANDS
FILLED TO CAPACITY, WE LEARNED THAT THE #68 WOULD
BE STARTING ON THE OUTSIDE POLE FOR ITS FIRST EVER
RACE. CULLY HANDLED THE PRESSURE OF STARTING ON
THE FRONT ROW LIKE A SEASONED VETERAN. AFTER
FALLING BACK A FEW PLACES FOLLOWING THE START, HE
BEGAN MAKING A CHARGE, BACK UP THROUGH THE FIELD.
THE CHARGE WAS CUT SHORT BY A LATE CATION FLAG.
ONCE THE RACE WAS RESTARTED THE CAR WAS NOT
HANDLING AS WELL AS IT HAD EARLIER AND CULLY
BROUGHT THE #68 HOME IN 5TH POSITION.
FOLLOWING THE HEAT RACE, A PROBLEM
DEVELOPED WITH THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER. JUST AT THE
MOMENT WHEN IT APPEARED THAT THIS COULD
PREMATURELY END THE DEBUT OF RC MOTORSPORTS,
RICHARD FOUND A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM.
FOLLOWING A LENGTHY BIT OF WORK UNDER THE CAR, THE
CREW CHIEF WAS ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM JUST IN TIME
FOR THE FEATURE.
UP NEXT WAS OUR FEATURE RACE. THE TEAM WAS
EXCITED TO SEE THAT CULLY WOULD BE STARTING FROM
THE POLE. IT WAS QUITE A THRILL FOR EVERYONE ON THE
TEAM TO SEE THE #68 LEAD THE PACK TO THE GREEN FLAG.
CULLY BATTLED HARD TO HOLD ON THE LEAD BUT WAS
SHUFFLED BACK A COUPLE POSITIONS. AS BEFORE IN THE
HEAT RACE, CULLY BEGAN TO DRIVE BACK TO THE FRONT.
UNFORTUNATELY THE LEADERS GOT TOGETHER IN TURN 4
AND SPUN. ATTEMPTING TO AVOID THE INCIDENT, HE
WAS HIT BY A CAR FROM BEHIND AND PUSHED HARD INTO
ONE OF THE CARS THAT HAD SPUN OUT. FOLLOWING A
QUICK PIT STOP TO REMOVE A PIECE OF SHEET METAL
THAT HAD WEDGED IT'S WAY AROUND THE LEFT FRONT
FENDER, CULLY RETURNED TO THE TRACK IN 7TH
POSITION. ONCE THE GREEN FLAG WAS DROPPED CULLY
FOUGHT A CAR BADLY OUT OF ALIGNMENT, DUE TO THE
EARLIER INCIDENT, AND MOVED UP TO SIXTH AT THE
CHECKERED FLAG. FOLLOWING THE EXCITING NIGHT OF
RACING, EVERYONE WAS PLEASED WITH THE RESULTS
AND WENT HOME LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT WEEK.
