NOTES FROM THE APRIL PRACTICES
|
APRIL 1
THE RC MOTORSPORTS TEAM GOT A CHANCE TO
TAKE TO THE TRACK AT KALAMAZOO FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER SATURDAY APRIL 1. ALTHOUGH A BIT CHILLY IT WAS A GREAT DAY. CULLY TURNING HIS FIRST LAPS EVER, VERY QUICKLY BEGAN LEARNING THE FASTEST WAY AROUND THE TRACK. THE DAY PROVED TO BE GOOD FOR ALL INVOLVED. RICHARD MADE SEVERAL CHANGES TO THE CAR AND BEGAN THE PROCESS OF GETTING THE CAR DIALED IN. AT THE CONCLUSSION OF THE TEST SESSION BOTH CULLY AND RICHARD WERE PLEASED WITH STEADY IMPROVEMENT IN THE HANDLING OF THE CAR AND KNOWELGE OF THE DRIVER.
APRIL 9
APRIL 9 BEGAN AS A COLD AND SNOWY MORNING
BUT THANKS TO A BRIGHT APRIL SUN, THE SNOW MELTED AND THE TRACK DRIED. THE PRACTICE SESSION PROGRESSED VERY QUICKLY, THE RC MOTORSPORTS TEAM CONTINUED SHOW SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT AS TIMES WENT DOWN AND CULLY DROVE A BETTER LINE AROUND THE TRACK. THE DAY DID COME TO AN END SOONER THAN HOPED WHEN THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE WENT FLAT GOING THRU TURNS 3 AND 4. COMING OFF TURN 4, WITH THE RIGHT FRONT FLAT, CULLY HAD NO CHANCE TO SAVE THE CAR. THE CAR HEADED RIGHT INTO THE FRONT STRETCH WALL. CULLY DROVE THE CAR BACK TO THE PIT AREA AFTER THE HARD IMPACT WITH THE WALL. THE DAMAGE WAS NOT ALL THAT SEVERE BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS ENOUGH TO END THE TEST SESSION. FOLLOWING THE BRUSH WITH THE CONCRETE, EVERYONE BEGAN LOOKING FORWARD TO OPENING NIGHT APRIL 15. |
